Newmarket draw local rivals Kiskeam in the Premier Intermediate Football Championship 2008

The draw for the 2008 championships took place at Pairc Ui Chaoimh on Saturday evening. Newmarket have been drawn to meet Kiskeam in the Premier Intermediate football championship, reviving memories of many epic encounters over the years, both in the junior and intermediate grades. This tie is sure to generate much interest in Duhallow and in the county.

Lotto over the Christmas period

Please note that the Lotto draw will move from its usual Monday slot to Sunday on the 23rd and 30th of December this month. Also, there is an end of year bonus of eight 50 euro lucky dip prizes on the 30th if the jackpot is not won.

2007 Club AGM Report

The Annual General Meeting of Newmarket GAA Club took place before a big attendance at the James O’Keeffe Memorial Institute recently.

Outgoing chairperson, Mary Stack welcomed all present before the meeting commenced. Life President, Con Collins opened the meeting by congratulating the clubs winning under 21 football and Nevin Cup teams as well as Denys O’Brien on winning an All Ireland junior football medal with Cork, Gavin Forde and T.J. Brosnan on representing Cork at juvenile level and Donnacha O’Dea on his continued handballing successes.

County board draw deadline looming

Monday, October 15th, 2007

This seasons County Board Draw will commence on Friday, October 26th. This years prize fund is €575,000. Tickets are priced at €100 for the twelve monthly draws, with each club getting 45% of each ticket sold. Tickets can be bought or renewed by contacting any committee member.

Tennis courts complete

Newmarket GAA are delighted to announce that the two new tennis courts in the West End Park are now complete and ready to play on. After decades of wishing to relocate them from the GAA grounds it has finally come to pass and we are thrilled with the development which we feel is an excellent amenity within our town for the enjoyment of all in the parish.

Upcoming Hurling fixture and Duhallow footballers

Newmarket’s under 21 hurlers will play Millstreet in the second round championship game at Castlemagner on Sunday next, October 7th at 1:30pm. Both sides were defeated in the first round but Newmarket put in a fine display in defeat to Kanturk by 3-5 to 1-7.

Well done to selector Paul Murphy and the Newmarket players involved with representing the Duhallow senior football team against Ballincollig last Sunday.

Greyhound Race Night in Curraheen

Newmarket GAA Club held a hugely successful fundraising night at Curraheen Park, Greyhound Track, Cork on Thursday evening last. A huge local contingent of all ages attended with a great night enjoyed by all. The club would like to extend sincere thanks to all who made this event such a success, especially sponsors, nominators, businesses, individuals and to all who generously contributed to the fundraising drive.

The result of the draw on the tickets sold was: 1st: Michael O’Flynn €300, 2ND: Olive O’Flynn €200, 3rd: Liam Allen €100. The winners of the nominators draw were Charles J. O’Connor, Sean Noonan and Brendan Stack

Fundraising night at Curraheen Park Greyhound Track

Newmarket GAA Club are running a fundraising night at Curraheen Park, Greyhound Track, Cork on Thursday, August 30th.

Committee members are currently selling admission tickets which also entitles entry into a free raffle. Sponsorship and dog nominations are also available. All support is greatly appreciated.

Congratulations to Newmarket player Denys O’Brien and the large Duhallow contingent involved in the Cork junior football team that claimed the All Ireland title by defeating Wexford in the final played on Friday evening last.

Drive Motor Group sponsor race night

On Wednesday the 11th of July last, Finbarr O’ Sullivan of the Drive Motor Group, presented a cheque to Mary Stack, chairperson of Newmarket GAA, along with other committee members.

Drive Motor Group are the main sponsor of Newmarket GAA’s race night, which will be held at Curraheen Park on Thursday the 30th of August. Proceeds of the night will go towards building the new field.

Big weekend of championship action for Newmarket in Hurling and Football

The under 21 footballers are playing in the first round of the County under 21 football championship this Friday, the 13th of July, at 7:30pm against Glanmire in Kildorrery. Newmarket won the Duhallow championship after a Replay against Boherbue back in April.

The Junior hurlers are in championship action this Sunday, the 15th of July, at 1.45pm against Freemount in Meelin. The teams have already met in the league earlier in the year with Freemount coming out on top. The lads should be boosted by their last performance against Kilgarvan in the league.

Newmarket GAA invites members, friends and supporters to come along to the GAA club rooms on Friday, May 18th to review work completed over the past six months and to preview plans for the next six months. All are more than welcome.

Club membership for the year is closing on June 4th. Membership is €25 for adults and €15 for students.

Only club members are eligible to apply for inter county game tickets. Membership can be paid to any member of the committee.
