County Champions 1998

December 6th 1998 will live long in the memories of everyone in Newmarket. Its been 10 years since that great day, and to mark the occasion NewmarketGAA.com will be posting the reports from all the championship games in 1998.

1998 County JFC Winners

Starting on Sunday we will post a report on the Kiskeam game, followed by the other Duhallow championship games. On Wednesday we will have the game against Crosshaven, when Newmarket played in Meelin jerseys. Then it will be the 2 games against Brian Dillons. Finally on Saturday December 6th 2008, 10 years after the match, we will post the report from the final itself, played before 10,000 spectators in Charleville.

Newmarket GAA club would like to thank and acknowledge the phenomenal support the under 21 team received in the build up and the huge volume of support received on the night of the game. The club would like to thank all who contributed to the team fund and all who went to the effort of decking out the town and area in the clubs colours all of which added to a wonderful occasion.

A special congratulations to former Newmarket player Tony Buckley, who won a Heineken Cup Medal with Munster on Saturday in Cardiff. Tony came on for ten minutes for Marcus Horan and unsurprisingly issued out some big hits to the Toulouse men during the period. Congratulations again to Tony & Munster on their historic victory.

The best of luck to former club player, now Munster Rugby prop, Tony Buckley, who has been named in the match-day twenty two for tomorrow’s Heineken Cup Final against Toulouse. Also, best of luck to his team-mates and Munster Rugby who are seeking their second title in three years.

Well done to the Duhallow senior football team on their second round victory in the County Senior football championship against C.I.T. at Ballyclough on Saturday evening and especially to the Newmarket contingent, team selector Paul Murphy, joint team captain Denys O’Brien, David O’Flynn and Bart Daly.

2008 Duhallow Championship Draws

Monday, March 10th, 2008

The draws for the 2008 Duhallow Championships took place on Monday evening last.

In the junior hurling championship Newmarket will meet Meelin for the first time since they met in Newmarket in 2005.

The junior footballers will face Dromtariffe and Knocknagree in their two championship games and will be required to win one of these games in order to progress.

In the under 21 hurling championship, Newmarket have been drawn to meet Millstreet.

Former parish curate passes away

Win for Newmarket Representatives and Victory Social

Congratulations to the Newmarket players involved with the Duhallow under 21 football team that won the Duhallow Invitational Tournament at the weekend after a fine victory over East Kerry by 0-19 to 0-6. The players involved were Bart Daly, Kevin O’Sullivan, John Ryan, John Lane and Nicky Flanagan.

Newmarket GAA Club will host a victory social in the Hi-Land on Friday, February 1st, 2008, at 8pm. The successful Duhallow winning under 21 football and Nevin Cup winning teams will be presented with their medals on the night. Music will be provided by Toss the Feathers. Tickets are priced at €20 each and are now available through various outlets.

Opening fixtures of 2008 season

Newmarket have been drawn to meet Knocknagree in the opening round of the Duhallow under 21 football championship, in a repeat of last years semi final. On that occasion Newmarket emerged victorious in an excellent contest by 0-16 to 1-9 at Cullen on March 24th, on their way to claiming the title.

Players Meeting

Newmarket draw local rivals Kiskeam in the Premier Intermediate Football Championship 2008

The draw for the 2008 championships took place at Pairc Ui Chaoimh on Saturday evening. Newmarket have been drawn to meet Kiskeam in the Premier Intermediate football championship, reviving memories of many epic encounters over the years, both in the junior and intermediate grades. This tie is sure to generate much interest in Duhallow and in the county.

Lotto over the Christmas period

Please note that the Lotto draw will move from its usual Monday slot to Sunday on the 23rd and 30th of December this month. Also, there is an end of year bonus of eight 50 euro lucky dip prizes on the 30th if the jackpot is not won.

2007 Club AGM Report

The Annual General Meeting of Newmarket GAA Club took place before a big attendance at the James O’Keeffe Memorial Institute recently.

Outgoing chairperson, Mary Stack welcomed all present before the meeting commenced. Life President, Con Collins opened the meeting by congratulating the clubs winning under 21 football and Nevin Cup teams as well as Denys O’Brien on winning an All Ireland junior football medal with Cork, Gavin Forde and T.J. Brosnan on representing Cork at juvenile level and Donnacha O’Dea on his continued handballing successes.
