Newmarket began the playing season with victory away to Castlemagner in Division 2 of the Ducon Cup at the latter’s venue, in a game played in splendid sunshine on Sunday by 0-9 to 1-4.

Newmarket GAA Club held a presentation and awards night on Friday night in the Clubhouse meeting room. Club Chairman Liam Lehane welcomed the assembled crowd and paid tribute to the club’s under 21 football team on recording a third successive Duhallow championship in 2009.

He called on Fr. Herlihy P.P. and Seán Browne of club sponsors Newmarket Motors to say a few words.
