A dominant opening period from hosts Newmarket over Kilbrin in round 4 of the Junior A hurling league helped the home side maintain their perfect start to the campaign.

Leading 2-07 to 0-03 after just 15 minutes through 2-01 from Hugh O’Connor, combined with points from Rory Lynn, Barry O’Connor, Conor O’Keeffe, Darren O’Keeffe (2) and Paddy Browne, the result never looked in question. The scoring prowess continued for the second quarter with Newmarket adding ten points to their tally through Donal Hannon (4), Barry O’Connor (2), Conor O’Keeffe (2), Rory Lynn and Darren O’Keeffe, to head into the break 2-17 to 0-04 in front.

The visitors opened the scoring of the second half with three well taken points but Newmarket responded through points from Darren O’Keeffe (2), John Ryan, Donal Hannon and Hugh O’Connor. A Ryan O’Keeffe goal on 40 minutes, put his side comfortably up 3-22 to 0-08 and removed any remaining doubts over the outcome. Kilbrin rallied and did all the remaining scoring of the half, bar a Ryan O’Keeffe point, to fall to a 3-23 to 2-14 loss. For Newmarket it ensured their winning start to the season continued.
