Newmarket’s minor footballers resumed their league campaign to record their third successive victory when they recorded a home victory against Boherbue by 1-17 to 2-8 on Tuesday evening last.
Newmarket began brightly with the prolific John Lane scoring two early points. More points followed from Nicky Flanagan, Jerry McCarthy and John Lane before Boherbue responded and a twelvth minute goal tied the sides at 0-5 to 1-2 after the opening quarter. John Lane and Nicky Flanagan edged Newmarket in front before Nicky Flanagan scored a spectacular goal after twenty minutes when he found the top corner of the net from twenty yards with an unstoppable shot. Newmarket increased their advantage with points from John Lane, Jerry McCarthy and John Ryan to lead at the interval by 1-10 to 1-3.
Boherbue pointed twice before Nicky Flanagan and John Ryan found the target for Newmarket. Two more Boherbue scores reduced the deficit to five points before Billy Hourigan, John Ryan and John Lane swung the balance back with Newmarket. A battling Boherbue hit a second goal but further points from John Lane and Bart Daly sealed a six point victory for Newmarket.
