Newmarket’s minor footballers maintained their winning run in this years league, recording their fourth successive victory when defeating Kilmurry by 1-12 to 0-8 at Newmarket last Tuesday evening.

Newmarket started impressively and this yielded points from Billy Hourigan, John Lane, Bart Daly and Jerry McCarthy after eleven minutes. The visitors enjoyed considerable possession but wasted a number of chances before scoring their first two points. John Ryan pointed next for Newmarket but Kilmurry maintained the initiative scoring two more points. John Ryan completed the scoring in the first half which left Newmarket ahead by 0-6 to 0-4.

Newmarket were made to battle all the way and despite points from Nicky Flanagan ( twice), John Ryan, Kevin O’Sullivan and Bart Daly the score read 0-11 to 0-8 entering the closing minutes. John Lane gave Newmarket a bit of breathing space before full forward Billy Hourigan goaled from close range in the final minute to seal the points.
