Newmarket see off Na Piarsaigh

The Newmarket senior footballers consolidated second position in the Cork Credit Unions division 4 table with a comfortable win away to Na Piarsaigh on Thursday night last.

The initial signs were ominous for the home side, as Newmarket opened up a five point advantage in the first quarter hour, through scores from Conor O’Keeffe (2), Barry O’Connor and John Ryan. The hosts had no answer to Newmarket and trailed by eleven points to no score at the break, with Hugh O’Connor (2), Kevin O’Sullivan, John Ryan, Barry O’Connor and Aidan Browne on target for the visitors.

The fixture was over as a contest midway through the second period, with a brace of Barry O’Connor goals adding to points from Conor O’Keeffe and Aidan Browne. With the outcome decided, the home side briefly took over the scoring and trailed 2-13 to 0-04, entering the final five minutes. Late Newmarket scores from Conor O’Keeffe (2) and Cathal Browne confirmed the 2-16 to 0-05 win and thus securing the league points, with two matches remaining.
