The Newmarket Junior B hurlers lost out to Freemount in the Duhallow Junior B despite a strong first half showing.

In a contest dominated by the difficult conditions, Newmarket lead 0-06 to 0-04 at the first water break, through scores from Robert Stack, Niall Collins, Seán Meehan and a trio of frees from Paul Verling. Niall Collins and another Paul Verling extended the lead to four after the resumption. With the half almost up, Colin O’Sullivan added to the total. This was followed by a fine 1-01 from full-forward Robert Stack, giving Newmarket a 1-10 to 0-04 advantage at the break.

Very difficult conditions meant Newmarket’s the second half was a defensive task, with the weather assisted Freemount quickly eating into the gap. They did so in fine fashion scoring 6-09 in the second half, to win out 1-10 to 6-13. Commiserations to the team and their mentors and congratulations to Freemount.
