Hurlers into Inaugural Duhallow Cup Semi Final

The Newmarket Hurlers travelled to Meelin on Wednesday last, the 7th July, to contest round one of the inaugural Duhallow Hurling Cup.

The hosts dominated the scoring in the early stages, registering the first three points of the match, to lead 0-00 to 0-03 after ten minutes. Despite two Gavin Forde frees, Meelin continued to control the game and commanded a 0-02 to 0-08 lead, at the first water break. The respite worked in Newmarket’s favour and they reduced the deficit to just two points over the next fifteen minutes, leaving it 0-08 to 0-10 at the break.

An early second half goal from substitute Robert Stack, helped Newmarket edge into the lead, but the contest was all square again, 1-11 to 0-14, at the final water break. With five minutes remaining, the visitors held a solitary point lead, before two further late scores ensured Newmarket progressed to the semi final on a scoreline of 1-15 to 0-15. Next up for Newmarket is a clash with Dromtariffe in the Hannon’s Mace sponsored competition.
