Newmarket and Glanmire drew in the quarter final of the County Under 21 football championship at Kildorrery on Friday evening last.
Glanmire opened the scoring with a point in the fifth minute before John Lane gained parity within a minute. Michael Kenneally then put Newmarket in front before Glanmire replied two minutes later. Once more Michael Kenneally found the target but again Glanmire levelled before edging in front in the twentieth minute. John Lane and Nicky Flanagan restored Newmarket in front but a fifth Glanmire point tied the sides for the fifth time. Kevin O’Sullivan then pointed to ensure that Newmarket turned over in front by 0-6 to 0-5.
Glanmire resumed in fine style and had three points within the first five minutes. John Lane had Newmarkets first score of the half and a Nicky Flanagan free had the sides level once more at the end of the third quarter. As the game entered the last ten minutes Glanmire seized the initiative to hit the front again. Newmarket not to be outdone hit back with points through John Ryan and Nicky Flanagan to once more regain the lead. Glanmire levelled again with little over two minutes of normal time remaining. John Ryan put Newmarket in front on the call of time but a resolute Glanmire kept their composure to find an equalizer in injury time and ensure another day out for both sides.
