After a dramatic set of Senior A football championship quarter finals over the weekend, Newmarket’s semi opposition is now known.
The first contest saw Knocknagree face Béal Átha’n Ghaorthaidh, with the Duhallow side taking a strong 0-07 to 0-02 half time lead. While Béal Átha’n Ghaorthaidh did much of the scoring in the second half, Knocknagree held out for a 0-10 to 0-08 win.
Sunday’s quarter-final brought Newcestown and Kanturk together, where a win for Kanturk would result in Newmarket taking on Knocknagree in the semi-final and a Newcestown victory would pair them against Newmarket. While it was a low scoring contest not aided by the weather, it wasn’t without drama, as Newcestown sealed their semi final spot on penalties after extra time.
Newmarket and Newcestown will now meet on Saturday the 7th of October in Pairc Ui Chaoimh to see who will take on the winners of Dohenys and Knocknagree for the 2023 Senior A title.
