Newmarket Intermediate footballers began the league season with an impressive win on home soil over Senior opponents Aghada on a scoreline of 2-9 to 0-9
Gavin Forde opened the scoring with a fine individual effort after three minutes and two more points from the boot of team captain T.J. Bodie had Newmarket three points to the good inside the first eight minutes. Newmarket held the upperhand for the most of the first half through further points by Kevin O’ Sullivan and Barry O’ Connor, with the latter firing home a goal in first half injury time after Tony O’ Keeffes initial shot had been saved. That goal left it 1-5 to 0-3 at the short whistle.
Newmarket began the second as they ended the first with T.J. Bodie notching over his third free. Newmarket had another goal on the scoreboard after a John Ryan 45 ended up being palmed into the Aghada net after an unfortunate mistake by one of their own players. Fine defensive work saw Newmarket hold a 6 point advantage midway through the second half, Two more points in quick succession pushed that to 8, one from the hardworking John Lane and T.J Bodie with a free from a difficult angle. Aghada had the next three points but it was Bodie with another well taken free to complete the scoring.
