Newmarkets hurlers were defeated by Tullylease in their final league game by 2-17 to 0-7 at Newmarket on Monday evening.
Tullylease goalled in the first minute but a brace of points from Donnacha O’Dea and a free from Colin O’Sullivan kept Newmarket in touch, 1-2 to 0-3 after ten minutes. Tullylease pointed next with Kieran Hayes replying for Newmarket. Four points in succession before the interval left the score 1-7 to 0-4 in Tullylease’s favour at half time.
A blitz of early second half scores put Tullylease in an unassailable position when they added a goal and four points to their total. Newmarket kept plugging away and it was left to substitute John Lane to find the scores as he hit the target three times during the half. Tullylease kept adding points at regular intervals to run out convincing victors.
