Defeat for the Juniors in the Ducon Cup

Knocknagree won an exciting contest at Newmarket on Friday evening when they emerged victorious by 3-13 to 2-9 in poor conditions at Newmarket. T.J. Bodie had two early points before Knocknagree scored the first goal of the game. Newmarket hit back with two goals in quick succession from Micheal Hourigan and Shane Anthony Murphy to leave the score 2-2 to 1-1 after an amazing opening ten minutes.

Knocknagree’s second goal four minutes before the break tied the scores and despite two points from T.J. Bodie, the visitors went in at the break narrowly ahead by 2-5 to 2-4 after a very entertaining thirty minutes.

Knocknagree resumed with four points in succession to take a substantial lead but aided by the efforts of Trevor Murphy, Gerard Casey and Shane Anthony Murphy Newmarket hit back through points by John Ryan twice, and Shane Anthony Murphy, which left the game nicely poised at 2-9 to 2-7 with twelve minutes remaining. The next score proved crucial when a well worked move ended with a Knocknagree goal from close range. Gerard Casey and John Lane scored points for Newmarket but Knocknagree sealed the points with a few insurance scores.
