Glanmire opened the scoring within a minute with Nicky Flanagan kicking a fine long range point for Newmarket in the fourth minute, before having to retire injured from the play. Glanmire edged in front for a second time before the impressive T.J. Bodie scored another fine effort from distance. The sides exchanged four further points in the first quarter with another brace of quality scores from play for Newmarket coming courtesy of fine finishing from Mark Reidy and Denys O’Brien. Both defences coped better at this stage but Newmarket looked very threatening on the offensive throughout. T. J. Bodie gave Newmarket the lead after twenty four minutes but a Glanmire point, tied the scores for the fifth time in a very close half’s play which ended 0-5 apiece.

Newmarket resumed in devastating fashion and the lethal finishing of T.J. Bodie complemented some excellent approach play as four points from the Newmarket marksman came in a six minute spell. John Ryan finished neatly in the next minute and suddenly Newmarket enjoyed a five point advantage. Glanmire recovered and they replied impressively, slowly reducing the lead and amazingly as it transpired they went on to score the next five points to tie the sides again at 0-10 apiece, fifteen minutes into the half.

Newmarket showed great character and seized the initiative again with points following from Maurice Feehan, a sublime effort from Kevin O’Sullivan and T.J. Bodie as Newmarket enjoyed a three point advantage entering the final ten minutes.

However, keeping with the context of the game, Glanmire hit back again and by scoring the next three points, the sides were level for the seventh time over the hour. Once again, Newmarket showed great resolve and led on by the prominent displays of Barry O’Leary, Denys O’Brien and Mark Reidy, their efforts inspired their team-mates to a late push for victory. Fittingly, Denys O’Brien fisted a monstrous punched pass over the home defence which found Mark Reidy all alone close to the Glanmire goal; as the on rushing goalkeeper tried to nullify the danger; the Newmarket centre forward coolly sidestepped his opponent to clip the ball home into an empty net.

A vibrant Newmarket side closed out the victory in fine style and Colin O’Sullivan followed with an excellently taken point before David O’Flynn finished proceedings by chipping in a second goal right at the death. The result gave Newmarket their third successive league victory.

The visitors were quick of the mark pointing within seconds of the throw in. Newmarket tied proceedings with T.J. Bodie slotting over a fourth minute free before John Ryan kicked the home side in front four minutes later. The sides were tied for a second time in the eleventh minute and went on to exchange another brace of points, Denys O’Brien on the mark for Newmarket, as they squandered numerous scoring opportunities during the opening half. Timothy Murphy was upended in the Glanmire square following a defence splitting move and corner back, Brian O’Riordan stepped forward to slot the ball into the net for the games opening goal after twenty three minutes. Newmarket’s joy was short lived as the visitors struck for an equalizing goal within a minute. Newmarket went into the interval with a slender one point lead 1-4 to 1-3 thanks to T.J. Bodie pointing late into the half.

Upon the restart, John Lane scored his first point of the evening but Glanmire replied with a point instantly. In the sixth minute, Newmarket half back Mark Reidy found himself deep in Glanmire territory and he kept his composure to find the net at the second time of asking. This gave Newmarket the impetus to drive forward and full forward John Lane was in inspirational form as he reeled off four points from play, five in total during the third quarter and build up a six point advantage 2-9 to 1-6 at this stage.

Newmarket played some superb football in the second half, a Michael Kenneally point testimony of this when he burst forward to kick a point from another memorable passage of attacking play. Glanmire hit back with two points but a free flowing Newmarket answered with a brace of points through T.J. Bodie and Tony O’Keeffe. They sealed the issue when Bart Daly added a third goal, eight minutes from time. A resilient Glanmire added two points but fittingly an excellent Newmarket ended the scoring proceedings when David O’Flynn pointed.

Glanmire took the lead with a point in the third minute but Kevin O’Sullivan surged forward to kick an equalizing point two minutes later. John Lane and John Ryan both converted placed balls as Newmarket utilized their possession in attack. Glanmire pointed next in the twelvth minute and despite getting into good positions and having scorable opportunities, this proved to be their last score of the half. Newmarket’s forwards capitalized on the chances that came their way and Nicky Flanagan slotted over two fine points after some impressive build up play from his teammates. This left Newmarket in front at the break by 0-5 to 0-2 after some fine defensive play all through the half.

Glanmire resumed with an early converted free but a tight third quarter unfolded and both attacks failing to make an impact against resolute defences. John Ryan pointed a free as the game entered the final quarter to restore a three point lead. With less than ten minutes to play Glanmire pointed but this sparked a burst from Newmarket. Team captain Bart Daly went forward and kicked an inspirational point before Newmarket unlocked the Glanmire defence and T.J. Bodie knocked over two fine points. This gave Newmarket a commanding lead in the circumstances but Glanmire reacted in fine style and quickly knocked over three points in just a couple of minutes. A tense conclusion followed but Newmarket held out for a fine victory and a date with Macroom in the semi final.

Glanmire opened the scoring with a point in the fifth minute before John Lane gained parity within a minute. Michael Kenneally then put Newmarket in front before Glanmire replied two minutes later. Once more Michael Kenneally found the target but again Glanmire levelled before edging in front in the twentieth minute. John Lane and Nicky Flanagan restored Newmarket in front but a fifth Glanmire point tied the sides for the fifth time. Kevin O’Sullivan then pointed to ensure that Newmarket turned over in front by 0-6 to 0-5.

Glanmire resumed in fine style and had three points within the first five minutes. John Lane had Newmarkets first score of the half and a Nicky Flanagan free had the sides level once more at the end of the third quarter. As the game entered the last ten minutes Glanmire seized the initiative to hit the front again. Newmarket not to be outdone hit back with points through John Ryan and Nicky Flanagan to once more regain the lead. Glanmire levelled again with little over two minutes of normal time remaining. John Ryan put Newmarket in front on the call of time but a resolute Glanmire kept their composure to find an equalizer in injury time and ensure another day out for both sides.

As the game began, the conditions receded and various showers during the game failed to dampen the enthusiasm of the players and patrons for the hour.

Glanmire pointed within seconds of the start but Newmarket were boosted when their first foray forward ended with a speculative shot from Jerry McCarthy finding the net, still in the first minute. T.J. Bodie and Barry O’Leary pointed as Newmarket impressed in the early stages.

Glanmire eventually found the range thanks to their deadly accuracy from placed balls, which was a feature throughout the hour, and gained parity in the eighteenth minute at 1-2 to 0-5. Four minutes later current Cork footballer Michael Cussen found himself in an advanced position and he finished to the net to give Glanmire the lead. Within two minutes Newmarket were back on level terms when another speculative effort from Seanie Francis O’Connor was deemed to be carried behind the line by the Glanmire goalkeeper. The sides then exchanged points with Seanie Francis O’Connor on target for Newmarket. Amazingly, Newmarket found the net for the third time in the half when John Cronin broke a high ball in the square, in to the path of SeanieFrancis O’Connor and his deft finish found the net for his second goal. Glanmire pointed in injury time, but Newmarket turned over in front by 3-3 to 1-7 after an eventful half.

Newmarket struggled to regain their form on the resumption as Glanmire again levelled and then took the lead, thanks to three points in nine minutes. Seanie Francis O’Connor coolly punched over Newmarkets first score of the half, which did not arrive until seventeen minutes. Bart Daly then kicked over a splendid point as Newmarket regained the lead. A Glanmire point tied the sides for the sixth time with ten minutes remaining. It was Glanmire who found that extra gear and two points were followed by a couple more in injury time as they went on to a four point victory.

Newmarket had a number of fine displays in the difficult conditions. John McSweeney had a fine game at full back, while Jerry McCarthy was industrious throughout, John Cronin provived a willing outlet as target man, while Seanie Francis O’Connor scored an impressive two goals and two points on limited opportunities.

Newmarket playing with the aid of a very strong breeze, started well with Seanie Francis O’Connor landing two fine long range points before Denys O’Brien got in on the act with another monster effort after ten minutes. Four minutes later, a long distance delivery from a Seanie Francis O’Connor free, saw John Cronin react quickest to the dropping ball and he fisted home to the net from the edge of the small square. Bart Daly converted a free and Denys O’Brien pointed as Newmarket made their dominance and fine flowing football play dividends. In the twenty first minute, Tony O’Keeffe intercepted a crossfield Glanmire free and he let fly to the back of the net for a super second Newmarket goal. Denys O’Brien added another point before Glanmire scored their solitary point of the half, which left the half time score 2-6 to 0-1 in Newmarkets favour.

Glanmire set about reducing the deficit immediately by scoring two early points but Seanie Francis O’Connor replied with a point for Newmarket. The home side went on to score five points without reply, mainly through frees, by the end of the third quarter, which left the score 2-7 to 0-8. A further three points brought them to within touching distance, despite Newmarkets resolute defending with Mark Reidy very prominent. Substitute Matthew Fitzpatrick fisted a point and another score from Bart Daly appeared to put Newmarket in pole position, leading by four points going into injury time. Glanmire refused to give in and a point was followed by an unstoppable goal in the third minute of injury time to cruelly deny Newmarket victory.

This was a much improved Newmarket performance with Mark Reidy, Denys O’Brien, Seanie Francis O’Connor and Tony O’Keeffe to the fore throughout.
