The home side never looked back once they opened the scoring with a point in the sixth minute. It wasn’t until the eighteenth minute before the next score of the game but crucially it was a Boherbue goal. They stretched their advantage on adding two further points to enjoy a six point lead. Newmarket struggled in attack and had to wait until the twenty seventh minute to register a score with Ian Flanagan on target from a free. As the half concluded, Boherbue enjoyed a lead of 1-3 to 0-1.

Boherbue resumed with a bright start to the second half and three points followed within six minutes. Newmarket trying valiantly, again struggled to make an impact on their opponents. As the third quarter of the half came to a conclusion, midfielder Ian Flanagan set off on a fine individual solo run and as he approached the twenty yard line he shot to the corner of the net for a wonderful goal. Newmarket were buoyed by this tonic score but it was Boherbue who had the next score to maintain their sizeable advantage. It was Ian Flanagan once more from a pointed free with Newmarket’s next score but unfortunately, with twelve minutes remaining, this proved to be his sides final score of the game. As the game ran to a conclusion, Boherbue added a further insurance point to run out clear victors.

The early exchanges were tight before the first point arrived courtesy of a superbly converted free by the outstanding T.J. Brosnan in the fifth minute. Newmarket enjoyed the better of the possession at this stage but failed to capitalize on the scoreboard. Boherbue found an equalizer in the eighth minute but Newmarket kept their composure and set about their task by eventually converting good possession into scores.

The impressive Nicky Barrett clipped over a fine individual point in the thirteenth minute with Vinny Molloy converting a free three minutes later. Daniel Culloty pointed superbly from distance on the right hand side of the pitch before Vinny Molloy was on target again to give Newmarket a lead of 0-5 to 0-1 by the eighteenth minute, following an impressive period of play. Boherbue added their second point five minutes later but in their next venture forward, Newmarket’s excellent corner forward Gavin Forde kicked a point of the highest quality from the narrowest of angles to restore a four point lead. Boherbue responded with a third point but once more Newmarket replied in a positive manner with Timmy O’Keeffe on target. Boherbue had the final score of the half but Newmarket turned over with a three point advantage, 0-7 to 0-4 at the interval from a half in which they had seven wides, several from good scoring positions.

The second half began in whirlwind fashion, as from a dangerous delivery from T.J. Brosnan into the Boherbue goalmouth, Timmy O’Keeffe gathered possession and unleashed a bullet of a shot towards goal from which the Boherbue goalkeeper produced an incredible save. Moments later, T.J. Brosnan once more converted a superbly executed long range free from the ground for the half’s opening score. Newmarket were again playing impressively and fittingly Nicky Barrett had his second point in the sixth minute with a clinically taken score.

T.J. Brosnan orchestrated proceedings, while in defence Timmy O’Flynn excelled alongside his fellow defenders and in attack Newmarket’s forward line looked threatening throughout. Gavin Forde was in top form and he engineered a wonderful solo point by unleashing a spectacular effort to establish a six point lead, 0-10 to 0-4 by the eleventh minute of the half.

At this stage Boherbue stood up to the challenge and responded in style. In the next six minutes Boherbue dominated and three quickfire points halved the deficit as a gripping contest developed. With Boherbue in the ascendancy, Newmarket crucially hit back immediately. A well taken free found T.J. Brosnan in plenty of space and as he set off on yet another of his defence splitting solo runs he unleashed another splendidly executed point. For good measure moments later, T.J. Brosnan again found the target to stamp his authority on the game and re-establish a five point lead for Newmarket. Boherbue pointed next but once more T.J. Brosnan rewarded the endeavours of his team-mates with his fifth point of the contest. Boherbue pointed again and with little over five minutes remaining, four points separated the sides.

Newmarket eventually settled the contest in the closing minutes. Another dangerous delivery from T.J. Brosnan towards the Boherbue goalmouth resulted in a scramble but Vinny Molloy kept his composure to clip the ball to the net from close range to gain Newmarket a substantial lead. Boherbue poured forward in response but a resolute Newmarket defence held firm with goalkeeper David Quinlan producing a couple of excellent saves. As the contest came to a conclusion, Newmarket surged forward once more and when Timmy O’Keeffe gathered possession he unleashed an unstoppable shot to the roof of the net to seal a superb victory and the title by 2-13 to 0-9.

The triumph culminates a season of hard endeavours for a young a committed squad of players. In goal David Quinlan was an inspiring figure and his monstrous kick outs launched several Newmarket attacks. Timmy O’Flynn excelled with Jack Birtley and Paudie Allen prominent in a well marshalled full back line. David Enright and Eoin Murphy were to the fore in defence and also when driving forward, either side of the teams captain Michael O’Leary who led his team with another customary faultless display. T.J. Brosnan and Patrick Kelly were a formidable and commanding partnership at midfield that worked tirelessly throughout the pitch. The half forward line of Daniel Culloty, Timmy O’Keeffe and Vinny Molloy contributed greatly to both open play and crucially to the scoreboard. The inside forward line of  Gavin Forde, Luke McCarthy and Nicky Barrett were in formidable form and a constant threat throughout as they earned their own scores and also set up others to take their chances.

Congratulations to the teams very dedicated mentors, Peter Foley, Barry O’Leary, Sean Doody and Niall O’Connor on their great achievements and in moulding together a fine side during a long campaign. Team captain Michael O’Leary was presented with the cup after the game by Tony McAuliffe, Development Officer of the Duhallow Board, while the ever obliging Newmarket Pipe Band, to whom the club are ever so grateful, were on hand to lead the victorious squad on their arrival through Newmarket.

Newmarket got off to a flying start when a well worked move ended with Daniel Culloty and he pointed in fine style within a minute. Boherbue levelled matters in the tenth minute and took a lead thanks to a second point a minute later. Newmarket regained the lead when a sublime long distance pass from T.J. Brosnan picked out Nicky Barrett and he crashed the ball to the back of the net for a fine goal. T.J. Brosnan scored two points for Newmarket, either side of a free from Vinny Molloy as Newmarket built up a lead of 1-4 to 0-2 after nineteen minutes. As conditions deteriorated, Newmarket took a firm grip of proceedings late in the half thanks to two quick fire goals in as many minutes. The first came courtesy of Vinny Molloy with Luke McCarthy following suit as Newmarket enjoyed a lead of 3-4 to 0-2 at the interval.]

Boherbue started the second half brightly and added two points in three minutes. Newmarket responded and found the target thanks to a brace of points from Nicky Barrett and another from T.J. Brosnan. Ten minutes into the half T.J. Brosnan lobbed the goalkeeper with a deft chip to find the net and Newmarket had a commanding lead of 4-7 to 0-4 at this stage.

It was Boherbue, however who reacted in fine fashion at this point. A goal quickly followed and three further points brought the deficit to three clear goals.

As the game entered the final ten minutes a second Boherbue goal ensured a tense conclusion. Substitute, Con McAuliffe pointed to end a barren thirteen minute spell for Newmarket but two more Boherbue points left just five points between the sides entering the final five minutes. Newmarket dug deep and found the reserves to produce a storming final few minutes. Daniel Culloty kicked a point before Con McAuliffe was on hand to claim an insurance goal from close range. Newmarket closed out the victory through further late points from substitutes, Gerry Murphy and David Enright. The win was Newmarket’s third of the campaign from five outings.

Newmarket opened the scoring when John Ryan converted a free on being upended in the opening seconds of the game. It was Boherbue however who completely dominated proceedings in the opening half. They responded in whirlwind fashion and their combination of determined and driven football was rewarded with an excellent return of six points by the end of the first quarter. Newmarket struggled with this onslaught and despite faring better in the second quarter Boherbue further increased their lead on adding a seventh point. As the half came to a conclusion, John Lane eventually pointed for a shaken Newmarket as another Boherbue score left them in firm control by 0-8 to 0-2 at the halfway mark.

To their credit Newmarket responded to a dismal opening half in the most impressive of fashion. John Ryan converted a free before Gerard Casey kicked a point in the fourth minute. The impressive Tony O’Keeffe and John Ryan reduced the arrears to just two points in a seven minute spell before Newmarket were awarded a penalty on Maurice Feehan being fouled as he closed in on goal. Brian O’Riordan duly stepped up to slot the ball home and amazingly Newmarket took the lead, 1-6 to 0-8 after just nine second half minutes. Boherbue tied matters with their first point of the half in the twelveth minute but it was Newmarket who had the momentum and Bart Daly strode forward to kick two fine points from play. When John Lane added a free with twelve minutes to play, Newmarket enjoyed a clear lead of 1-9 to 0-9 at this stage. Crucially, the next score of the game proved to be an equalizing goal for Boherbue and an exciting final ten minutes followed as both sides endeavoured to claim victory. With matters still level with little over two minutes to play it was Boherbue who breached the Newmarket defence for a second time to crash home a second goal. As Newmarket sought a response Boherbue sealed victory on adding an insurance point and duly ran out worthy winners.

At the end of the third quarter Boherbue struck for a goal to take the lead, 1-6 to 0-7. This propelled Newmarket to produce their best football of the hour. T.J. Brosnan added a point and Newmarket were superb in all sectors; however their finishing left them down as a succession of chances went a begging.

Newmarket eventually found the range with an equalizing point thanks to a superb score from T.J. Brosnan and he followed this up with an even better score a minute later. Timmy O’Keeffe scored a fine individual score which was Newmarket’s fifth point in succession as they gained a two point lead in the early stages of injury time. However, Newmarket were cruelly denied within seconds when Boherbue raced through the field and despite a wonderful save from Newmarket goalkeeper David Quinlan a penalty was awarded in the resultant passage of play and it was coolly slotted to the corner of the net. There was still time for Boherbue to add another point as they sealed the contest.

The second half was all Newmarket, they seemed to use the breeze to greater advantage than the home side did in the first half, capitalising some great moves with some excellent scores, coming from Luke McCarthy; a goal, David Enright; a point and TJ Brosnan; a goal and a point. It must be said that they where very wasteful with some of the forward play as Boherbue had been in the first half. However the second half dominance by Newmarket paid dividends with Boherbue only managing one point in the second half from a free, due to some excellent last ditch defending by the Newmarket back line. Final Score Boherbue 2-5 – Newmarket3-6. So ending a great team performance by the Newmarket boys with an excellent 8 point turn around and each and every player contributing to a good display, hopefully they can now capitalise on this performance for the rest of the coming games.

Boherbue completely dominated after the restart with three early points added to their tally. Shane Anthony Murphy converted a free in the fifth minute but this proved to be Newmarket’s only score of the half. Another two points gave Boherbue a lead of 1-10 to 0-6 at the end of the third quarter and a second goal sealed the contest with little over ten minutes remaining. They ended the game by adding another goal and three points to leave Newmarket comprehensively defeated by the end. Newmarket were well served by a number of fine individual performances. Goalkeeper David Quinlan gave a very mature display on his debut while, Donnacha O’Dea, Anthony Crowley, Anthony Lynch and Nicky Flanagan also impressed as did the unfortunate Gerard Sheahan.

Last year the juniors qualified for the knockout stages of the competition, eventually being beaten by Dromtarrife in the quarter final.

On Monday evening, at 8.30pm, the intermediates will be in action in Cloughduv in the 2008 PIFL (Co Div 3) SF Replay against Valley Rovers. The original fixture was played back in November.

Lets hope its the start of another successfull season for the hurlers and footballers of Newmarket.

The game began with Newmarket registering the first three points of the game, all frees from Ian Flanagan, Conor Cronin and Brian O’ Connell. At the first quarter stage Newmarket led 3 points to nil but Boherbue struck back on seventeen minutes with a goal to the top corner from ten yards levelling the sides. Boherbue gained the momentum then and followed up with 2 more points. With two minutes to half time Conor Cronin pointed with a fine long range free to come to within a point of Boherbue. On the stroke of half time Boherbue hit back with another goal, this time from inside the small square to lead at half time by 2-1 to 4 points. It wasn’t a true reflection on the possession Newmarket had to go in losing by 4 points.

The second half began with an Ian Flanagan free on thirty four minutes. Boherbue replied with a point on forty minutes. With underfoot conditions getting worse and ball handling errors becoming more of an issue scores were hard to come by. With ten minutes to go Brian O’ Connell pointed from a placed ball but once again Boherbue replied two minutes later with another point. With Newmarket behind by four points with only three minutes remaining, it became evident they would need a goal. Brian O’ Connell scored what was to be the final score of the game from another placed ball.  Newmarket applied great pressure to the Boherbue defence who defended resolutely at the end of the game. There was no sign of this Newmarket team giving up and they never gave in towards the end of the game. They were luckless as they could not find the breakthrough and Boherbue claimed the title completing a league and Championship double in the B grade with a 2-4 to 7 point win.

Newmarket gave a great account of themselves and can be proud of their effort. They were unlucky not to have at least drawn the game. On the day, their was some fine individual performances namely, Brendan Stack, Alan Forde and Conor Cronin who all had fine games.

Newmarket got off to a terrific start that yielded two goals in the first six minutes. Darren O’Keeffe showed great composure when finishing to the net from close range after four minutes and just two minutes later a neat finish from T.J. Brosnan doubled Newmarket’s lead. Amazingly, the next score of the contest was also a goal. In the tenth minute Boherbue were awarded a penalty which was duly dispatched to the net. Newmarket endeavoured to create numerous good scoring opportunities but were guilty of missing a succession of chances. Darren O’Keeffe was the only player who managed to find the target during this period. At the back Brendan Stack impressed with Alan Forde also to the fore while goalkeeper David Quinlan produced one particularly spectacular save to keep his goal intact. Boherbue added a point to their total which left the half time score 2-1 to 1-1 in Newmarket’s favour.

Boherbue added two points in the first ten minutes of the second half before Darren O’Keeffe helped Newmarket back into a two point advantage. As the game entered the final quarter the issue was finely balanced. T.J. Brosnan kicked a superb long distance point but at this stage Boherbue seized the initiative and finished very strongly. A second goal gave them the lead for the first time with less than ten minutes to play. They sealed the issue with a third goal right at the end to confirm a six point winning margin.

Newmarket were however, also guilty of missing a number of other scoring opportunities and had a succession of wides during the half. Newmarkets good first half display was further enhanced by a brace of points from John Ryan before the break as they turned over in front by 0-7 to 0-1.

Boherbue resumed with the wind at their backs and tried hard to get back into the game. They added two points in ten minutes as Newmarket withstood a succession of Boherbue pressure. Nicky Flanagan scored a much needed point for Newmarket when a converted a free after forty three minutes. Boherbue maintained their challenge and two further points reduced the deficit to just three points, while Newmarket survived another couple of shaky moments to maintain their advantage. Newmarket were boosted when a fine move swept the team forward and Shane Anthony Murphy kicked a point to lift his side with five minutes remaining. Boherbue pointed next but Nicky Flanagan was on hand to convert a late free and clinch the points for Newmarket.

Newmarket took the lead after six minutes when Kevin O’ Connor pointed from a free. Boherbue had two great goal chances prevented when the Newmarket custodian Niall O’ Connor made two fine saves to deny the opposition an early lead. Boherbue replied with a point on the ninth minute to level the teams. Once again the teams traded points on the thirteenth minute with Brian O’ Riordan punching over Newmarket’s point. This was Boherbue’s final score of the half. Kevin O’ Connor followed up with two more points from frees on the seventeenth and twentieth minutes. John Lane rounded off a good last ten minutes to the half with two points, one coming from a placed ball. This left the score line reading 6 points to 2 in Newmarket’s favour at the turnover.

Boherbue hit back early in the second half with a goal from close range. However the comeback was thwarted when Sean Doody replied with a goal of his own to cancel out Boherbue’s effort only a minute later. Newmarket took the initiative from here on in when Gerard Casey scored a great point off the outside of the boot eleven minutes into the second half. This was quickly followed by another Kevin O’Connor free and a fisted point from Anthony Crowley. Kevin O’Connor scored his first point from play with ten minutes to go. John Lane rounded of Newmarket scoring for the day with a point six minutes from time. Boherbue got a consolation point from a free with one minute to go and Newmarket ran out easy winners in the end with a score of 1-11 to 1-3.

The team played some good football over the hour. Niall O’Connor had a fine game in goals and his defence were very solid in front of him limiting Boherbue to only 1-3 altogether. Gerard Casey had a fine good game at midfield starting a lot of Newmarket moves throughout the game. Up front Kevin O’ Connor played well scoring a total of five points. Overall, Newmarket can be very happy with the result and can now look forward to a date with Knocknagree in the Nevin Cup Final. Newmarket won the Nevin Cup for the first time in the clubs history in 2004 and will hope they can make it two when they meet Knocknagree in the decider.

Newmarket began well and midfielder Gerard Casey had the first score of the game when he surged forward for a point after six minutes. Boherbue tied the proceedings next as the conditions got increasingly worse by the minute. John Ryan pointed next before Boherbue levelled for a second time at the end of the first quarter. Newmarket went on to enjoy a productive spell playing good football despite the elements. Colin Stack had a fine individual score kicking from long range after a long solo run. Not to be outdone wing back Anthony Crowley, who was having an excellent game kicked an inspirational point after a similar fine solo run. Full forward Shane Murphy kicked another fine point as Newmarket enjoyed a three point lead. Boherbue reduced the deficit but once more Shane Murphy kicked over a point for Newmarket. As the half came to a conclusion Boherbue found the net and landed a long range free to turn over in front by 1-4 to 0-6 at half time.

As the second half commenced the rain was now torrential and despite this both sides showed great endeavour and real championship spirit.

The impressive Shane Murphy levelled for Newmarket but Boherbue edged ahead again within a minute. At the end of the third quarter Kevin O’Connor landed a superb long range free to tie the sides for a fifth time. Boherbue hit the front with two points in quick succession but Newmarket recovered and a John Ryan point ensured a nail biting conclusion. Newmarket had a few opportunities but it was Boherbue who added to their tally. Amazingly in the final seconds Newmarket surged forward with a quick flowing move and Michael Kenneally unleashed a shot that was superbly saved by the Boherbue goalkeeper and moments later in the same movement he again produced another excellent stop to deny Kevin O’Sullivan. This proved to be the last action of the game as Boherbue claimed a place in round three. Newmarket can still progress to round three if they win their next game which will be decided by an open draw.

The game got off to an amazing start. Boherbue hit the net in the third minute with John Lane equalling the feat within two minutes. Incredibly, Boherbue hit the third goal of the game in the sixth minute. John Lane and Eugene Bodie then had points for Newmarket before John Lane struck for his second goal at the end of the opening quarter to leave the score 2-2 to 2-0. Newmarket enjoyed a period of dominance and were rewarded through points by John Ryan, Bryan O’Connell and Eddie Allen before Bryan O’Connell hit yet another goal in the twenty third minute. Newmarket continued to impress with further points from John Ryan twice and Bryan O’Connell. Boherbue ended a long period without a score with a late point and this left the half time score 3-8 to 2-1.

Boherbue resumed with a goal within a minute of the restart and this fuelled a revival. They completely dominated the third quarter and attacked Newmarkets defence with wave after wave of attack and Newmarket goalkeeper Ian Flanagan had to be at his best on a number of occasions. Boherbue scored four points in this period and by the three quarter stage the deficit was down to three points, 3-8 to 3-5. Newmarket under intense pressure, managed to surge forward and a fine free flowing move ended with Eddie Allen on hand to score his sides fourth goal. A resurgent Newmarket then added points through Liam O’Callaghan and John Ryan. Boherbue refused to wilt and soon added a point and then their fourth goal. This amazing contest conclude when Eddie Allen pointed as Newmarket eventually sealed the points.

Newmarket were a different side from the one that drew the original game and early pressure yielded a John Ryan point. Newmarket were boosted in the fifth minute when outstanding goalkeeper Niall O’Connor produced a superb save in denying Boherbue from the penalty spot. Newmarket took great confidence from this and points followed from John Ryan and Kevin O’Sullivan.

The first quarter ended with Newmarket producing a top class move involving Conor Cronin, John Ryan and John Lane who set up T.J. Bodie and he sent an unstoppable shot to the roof of the Boherbue net. Boherbue regained their composure and produced a top quality goal of their own in the twentieth minute, with a point four minutes later reducing the arrears to just two points. Newmarket maintained their composure and their next sweeping forward move saw Timothy Murphy send in a quite sublime pass and Kevin O’Sullivan punched expertly to the back of the net from the edge of the square. T.J. Bodie and Nicky Flanagan pointed to send Newmarket in at half time with a seven point advantage, 2-5 to 1-1.

Boherbue resumed with two early second half points but John Ryan and John Lane responded with scores for Newmarket. Try as they may, Boherbue could not make an impact on the deficit as Newmarket answered each subsequent Boherbue score with one of their own. Nicky Flanagan had a point sandwiched between a couple of Boherbue scores before Newmarket added three points in as many minutes with high quality scores from John Lane twice and Nicky Flanagan again. Newmarket led at this stage by 2-11 to 1-5 with thirteen minutes to go. Boherbue kept battling to the end and had three points for their efforts and John Lane registered his sides final point with his fourth of the game, before the final whistle heralded Newmarket’s seventh success at this level.

The team eventually emerged in a repeat of the minor final of three years ago and made amends for last years defeat. In claiming the title they have defeated Kiskeam, Knocknagree and Boherbue, producing many memorable and entertaining moments along the way. On the night Niall O’Connor was superb in goal and set the platform for the game on saving the early penalty. The backs as a unit were excellent coping admirably with all that was asked of them. Kevin O’Sullivan and Micheal Murphy were extremely influential while the fast moving forward line were devastating at times scoring many fine points with Ricky Reidy acting as an excellent target man and foil to the other forwards, especially his livewire corner forwards John Lane and Nicky Flanagan who chipped in with seven points between them.

Team captain Bart Daly was presented with the trophy after the game by Duhallow Board Chairman, Sean McAulifffe. Congratulations to the teams mentors and selectors, Paul Murphy, Pat Flanagan, Ben O’Keeffe, Tony O’Keeffe and Seanie Francis O’Connor on their fine achievement. The team as ever received great support throughout the campaign and the supporters contribution is greatly appreciated by the players.

Newmarket hit form from the word go and John Cronin and T.J. Bodie found the target in the opening minutes. John Cronin and a fine individual effort from Shane Anthony Murphy increased the lead before Boherbue struck with two quick points, at the end of the opening quarter. The prolific duo of John Cronin and T.J. Bodie again found the target and Boherbue kept in touch by getting a third point. Newmarket then made a significant breakthrough when Sean Doody was on hand to finish to the net from close range. Newmarket made their dominance pay for the remainder of the half with T.J. Bodie scoring a brace of points, either side of another Shane Anthony Murphy point. This left the score reading 1-9 to 0-3 in favour of the home side at half time.

Newmarket continued where they left off, upon the resumption with John Cronin and Shane Murphy landing a couple of spectacular points. The unerring John Cronin was once more on target as Newmarket took a twelve point lead. Boherbue eventually breached a well marshalled Newmarket defence for a goal at the end of the third quarter, also adding a point in their next attack. The sides exchanged a couple of points before the end with John Cronin rounding off a fine performance with his sixth point.

Newmarket impressed throughout the pitch with Trevor Murphy, Brian Daly and Anthony Crowley to the fore in defence. Jerry McCarthy and Gerard Casey were emmense at midfield putting in a tireless amount of work. John Cronin, T.J. Bodie and Shane Anthony Murphy were very much on form on the day scoring an array of points between them.

John Ryan gave Newmarket a second minute lead with Boherbue on terms two minutes later. John Lane restored Newmarket’s lead but again Boherbue replied. Boherbue hit the front for the first time but a John Lane point, the first from play, yet again tied the scores. Newmarket upped their performance and points from John Ryan and the impressive John Lane gave them a two point advantage. However, Newmarket were indebted to goalkeeper Niall O’Connor for producing a superb save to keep their lead intact. Boherbue responded by adding two points to leave the sides level for the fourth time at the interval on 0-5 apiece.

Newmarket’s cause got a major boost within three minutes of the second half on being awarded a penalty when Nicky Flanagan was upended. Brian O’Riordan stepped up and duly converted to the net. Within a minute T.J. Bodie kicked a fine long range point. Boherbue recovered and two points halved the deficit. Newmarket were then spurred by an outstanding point from team captain Bart Daly who led his side with a fine performance. A Boherbue point left the score at 1-7 to 0-8 entering the final quarter. Newmarket rose to the challenge and points followed from John Lane, John Ryan and Conor Cronin to give a five point advantage with just eight minutes to play. Boherbue kept their composure and clipped the deficit on scoring two points.

As the game entered injury time, Boherbue conjured up the spirit to get the all important goal and dramatically found a way past Newmarket’s excellent goalkeeper Niall O’Connor. Newmarket had one final chance to reclaim the lead but on the balance of play, a draw was a fair result over the hour and both sides must meet again, in an eagerly awaited replay.

The second half got of to a disastrous start for Newmarket as Boherbue quickly closed the deficit from a few basic defensive errors and then went ahead. Boherbue continued on gaining confidence and went ahead by 4 points at one stage. After about 20 Minutes Conor Cronin scored a goal clawing back the Boherbue lead to a single point, setting the game up for a thrilling finale. Thereafter it was point for point with Boherbue coming out as winner by a point. Full time score Newmarket 3-09 to 1-16 Boherbue.

It would have been very hard to pick a winner and Newmarket may feel they deserved a draw. Ultimately, however, there can only be one winner. Overall the game was the winner as it was high scoring, no dirty play and a very exciting finish with great effort and endeavour shown by all participants.

Newmarket began brightly with the prolific John Lane scoring two early points. More points followed from Nicky Flanagan, Jerry McCarthy and John Lane before Boherbue responded and a twelvth minute goal tied the sides at 0-5 to 1-2 after the opening quarter. John Lane and Nicky Flanagan edged Newmarket in front before Nicky Flanagan scored a spectacular goal after twenty minutes when he found the top corner of the net from twenty yards with an unstoppable shot. Newmarket increased their advantage with points from John Lane, Jerry McCarthy and John Ryan to lead at the interval by 1-10 to 1-3.

Boherbue pointed twice before Nicky Flanagan and John Ryan found the target for Newmarket. Two more Boherbue scores reduced the deficit to five points before Billy Hourigan, John Ryan and John Lane swung the balance back with Newmarket. A battling Boherbue hit a second goal but further points from John Lane and Bart Daly sealed a six point victory for Newmarket.
