Membership of the club is now up for renewal. The fees for the year are Players €30, Adults €25, Students €20 and can be paid to any member of the club committee.

Tickets are now available for the Newmarket GAA Victory Social which will take place in the Charleville Park Hotel on Saturday, February 25th. The county Premier Intermediate football champions will be presented with their winning medals on the night. The meal will be served at 7:30pm and musical entertainment will be provided by THE CELT. Tickets are priced at €30 each and are available from various outlets and club officers.

At the Cork County GAA Convention last Saturday evening, the senior football championship draw for 2012 was being awaited with much anticipation by all within the Newmarket club. The draw pitted Newmarket with a heavy weight contest against one of the most famous and successful clubs in Ireland, let alone within Cork GAA circles, the iconic St. Finbarrs club. A club that has tasted All Ireland club success at senior level in both football and hurling level, it promises to be a much awaited contest come the month of April. Newmarket and St. Finbarrs made acquaintance in 2008 when they contested the County Under 21 Football Final at Páirc Uí Rinn where the city side emerged victors by 1-14 to 1-8. The defeated side will have a second round contest against the losers of the Castlehaven verses Aghada encounter.

Newmarket GAA Club will be running a Victory Celebration Dance on Thursday, December 29th at Hourigan’s Lounge commencing at 9:30pm. Music will be provided by David John & Dave. Tickets are priced at €10 and proceeds will go towards a training fund for the Newmarket team that brought the County Premier Intermediate title to the club last October.

Invited guests and speakers included Fr. David Herlihy, P.P. and Steven Lynch, Secretary of the Duhallow Board. Club Chairman Liam Lehane reflected on the successes achieved on the field of play which included a Singleton Cup victory in junior hurling, Duhallow Minor B Football League success as well as a Duhallow Minor C Hurling Championship and ultimately a County Minor C Hurling Championship title, a historic first hurling title at county level for Newmarket. Liam commended the winning teams and their sets of selectors on their achievements. Sean Browne of the clubs main sponsors Newmarket Motors presented the minor footballers with their medals, while Club President presented the minor hurlers with their set of medals.

A presentation was made to T.J. Brosnan on winning an All Ireland medal with the Cork Vocational Schools football team while their was a joint presentation of Clubman of the year to two distinguished players, David O’Flynn in football and Kieran Hayes in hurling for their commitment to the club for many years given the staggering amount of travel involved for both players and their dedication and service an inspiration to all.

A memorable night concluded with the crowd hugely entertained by the music provided from The Celt who provided a wonderful atmosphere which was greatly received. The club would like to thank the management and staff of the hotel for all their help and co-operation as well as the numerous sponsors and the clubs Social Committee of Robert Stack, Victor Lane, John Scanlon and Barry O’Leary for providing such a fantastic occasion.

Club chairman Liam Lehane called on Parish Priest Fr. David Herlihy to address the gathering and he remarked on the very important role the GAA club holds within every community and the positive impact it generates from all those involved in club activities. Liam Lehane praised the successful winning team on their achievements and the mentors associated with the team, especially outgoing team manager Paul Murphy for his great service to both club and division for many years now. He also paid tribute to the outgoing club committee on their tremendous efforts regarding development of the clubs grounds and the revenue generated in the process. He wished all the clubs teams success for the year ahead.

Tony McAuliffe, Development Officer with the Duhallow Board, also paid tribute to the under 21 side and also to the clubs other teams during the year who performed admirably, backboned by a very young panel of players. He thanked the club for the use of their facilities when required by the board and also the Newmarket players and mentors who represented Duhallow during the year.

Paul Murphy spoke on behalf of the mentors of the under 21 team and thanked fellow selectors Pat O’Brien, Pat Flanagan and Ben O’Keeffe and the panel of players for their major commitment and dedication during a long playing season.

Sean Browne spoke on behalf of the clubs main sponsors Newmarket Motors also paying tribute to the team and the club for the provision of excellent facilities.

Under 21 Team captain Timothy Murphy introduced the panel of players as they were presented with their medals by Jerry Browne and then made a presentation to Paul Murphy on behalf of the players.

Club Treasurer Neilie McCarthy announced the Clubperson of the year for 2008 and the worthy recipient was Mary Stack who served as chairperson for the previous two years, which oversaw major redevelopment and fundraising with Mary’s drive and enthusiasm central to such a successful period in the history of the club. She received her award and a bouquet of flowers from Club President Con Collins who reflected on Mary’s incredible input to the club. Mary paid tribute to the outgoing dedicated committee without whom she said nothing would have been achieved. She thanked the under 21 team for the wonderful entertainment they have provided for all down through the years and wished the club every success for the coming year.

Happy Hearts provided the musical entertainment for the remainder of a very enjoyable night.
