A last gasp extra time goal from Donal Hannon enabled Newmarket to clinch an enthralling, epic Kanturk Co-Op Mart Duhallow Junior Hurling Championship clash with Millstreet by 3-22 to 2-23 after eighty action packed minutes at picturesque Banteer on Friday night.

Junior hurlers suffer first round defeat

Tullylease swept past the challenge of Newmarket with a well deserved victory by 1-13 to 1-8, in the first round of the Kanturk CoOp Mart Duhallow Junior Hurling Championship game played in warm conditions at Kilbrin on Sunday afternoon.
In doing so, Tullylease avenged defeat in the divisional league final played between the sides, two weeks previously.

Newmarket emerged from the tightest and closest of contests to defeat Freemount by a solitary point, in the Kanturk Credit Union Duhallow Junior Hurling League Semi Final by 0-13 to 0-12 played at sunny Tullylease on Saturday evening. In doing so, Newmarket have qualified for the league final for the first time since 1983, the reward for a tremendous league campaign this season.

Newmarket completed their junior hurling league programme with a share of the spoils after a draw of 1-14 apiece with Millstreet in dreary wet conditions on a dark night in Newmarket. Already assured of qualification for the semi finals, the result ensured Newmarket finished second in the league table on thirteen points from eight games.

Newmarket maintained their challenge to qualify for the semi finals of the Duhallow junior hurling league when Donal Hannon converted a late free into a stiff breeze from a difficult angle, to overcome Banteer by 2-11 to 1-13 at Banteer on Sunday afternoon. It regained Newmarket a lead they held since the second minute until they were pegged back with a late equalizing Banteer goal.

A strong display in the final ten minutes from a sharper Tullylease side inflicted a first league defeat for the Newmarket hurlers, 2-20 to 2-16 in a high scoring league game played at Newmarket on Tuesday evening.
