New Field

At last! We’ve consulted our members, our parish, our shamans and oracles and we’re finally off to build a new pitch! This is the biggest and most exciting project Newmarket GAA has embarked upon since the pitch opened in 1955.

Since the inception of our committees in late 2006, we have developed, approved and begun to implement plans for improving our facilities. There are two phases: 1: regenerate the dressing rooms, and, 2: build a new training pitch.

Finished dressing room

Phase 1 has been completed to parish acclaim under the direction of the legendary John Feehan. We’ve now got dressing rooms to compare with the best!.

Enjoying a well deserved breakJohn used his considerable skills and charm to arrange that our old dressing rooms were transformed on time and within a very limited budget. All labour provided was free, the craic and tea were good (see opposite) and materials used were at cost.

Phase 2 involves developing a new training pitch on the area of ground to the left as you enter the main gate (see image below). Its purpose is to ease team congestion and take pressure from our much abused playing pitch.

Initial work on the tennis courtsDeveloping this pitch involves moving the tennis courts to the west end park (already begun – see photo) and replacing them with training pitch (see below for plan). The whole project will be complete by August 2008 – when we’ll be playing on the new pitch!

Plan drawings of the proposed new pitch

We’ve costed the lot to Euro 300,000 and have already gathered some Euro 100,000 – so we’re seeking to raise Euro 200,000. You can help us. Go here, play the odds and contribute to our vibrant club. If you’ve not seen this before we’d like to assure you that its legit, we get the money, its one of the biggest jackpots around and for those of you averse to gambling assume we’ll keep your winnings as a donation. Here at newmarketgaa.com we will keep you updated with all progress and developments.
