Footballers advance over Kiskeam

The sun shone brilliantly on our intermediate footballers at an overcast Boherbue on Sunday last when the Kiskeam challenge was well and truly overwhelmed on a 2-13 to 0-8 scoreline.

Mike Cottrell opened the scoring with s superb point in the opening minute. This was followed a minute later by a Daniel Culloty point. The Game swung dramatically in the black and red favour when Barry O’Connor, on receiving a superb pass from Tony O’Keeffe, found the net. The first half concluded with points from T.J. Brosnan and Daniel Culloty to leave Newmarket leading,1-4 to 0-5.

Newmarket had the wind behind in the second half and scored 1-9 to 0-3. With Tony O’Keeffe’s goal wrapping up the game as a contest on the 21st minute and young Daniel Culloty put the icing on the cake with a gem of a point from a sideline kick 25 metres out on the right wing, to cap a stunning afternoon for Newmarket.

One could sense once this young side left the dressing room there could only one result and that’s the way it went. It was as great a victory as Newmarket has ever savoured and there were outstanding displays from the whole team.
