Intermediates get off the mark

The Intermediate’s won their first league game of the season on Sunday last when they recorded a comprehensive victory over Adrigole in ideal conditions in Newmarket on a scoreline of 3-12 to 0-8 points.

Adrigole started the game by pointing within a minute. John Ryan got Newmarket’s first point of the day from a placed ball four minutes later but Adrigole replied swiftly to take the lead again. Once more a John Ryan placed ball meant parity between the sides after 11 minutes. Adrigole for the third time took the advantage and Mark Reidy replied to level scores for the third and last time in the match. John Lane gave Newmarket the lead for the first time in the game and they never looked back. A good point from Tony O’ Keeffe and another point to the very impressive Mark Reidy put Newmarket 6 points to 3 ahead at the 20 minute mark. The game was finished in reality when Maurice Feehan goaled after some very good build up play and a quickfire second from Tony O’ Keeffe after a sublime pass from John Ryan to leave it 2-6 to 3 after 25 minutes. John Lane pointed but Adrigole had the final say of the half to leave it 2-7 to 0-4 at the halfway mark.

Adrigole pointed 3 mintes into the second half but immediately Mark Reidy replied with a goal. Again Adrigole pointed and John Ryan replied with a placed ball to make it 3-8 to 0-5 after 40 minutes. Adrigole pointed once more but Newmarket followed with a purple patch with points to John Lane, Tony O’ Keeffe, and Shane Murphy and after a patient build up a Mark Reidy point made it 3-11 to 0-6 with 10minutes to go. Adrigole got the final 2 points of the game and it finished up 3-12 to 8 points.
